“Even You Daddy, We Shall Sell You”

Children often speak in ways that make us laugh yet hidden in their innocence are profound lessons for parents and society. A recent encounter with two little girls aged 6 and 9 perfectly illustrates this truth.

The children came across a toy they had long desired, the LOL Dream Van. Their excitement was unstoppable. But when their parents explained that money was not available, the children’s creativity unfolded. They insisted on calling their aunt at the bank to access their savings, pleaded with the shop attendants to take the toy and allow payment later, and even issued a humorous but striking warning: if they did not get the toy, they would “sell” their parents. Turning to their father, they boldly declared, “Even you daddy, we shall sell you.”

Amusing as it sounded, this innocent response carries important lessons every parent should reflect on.

  • The power of desire

Children are clear about what they want and express it with confidence. Unlike adults who often bury their dreams under fear or doubt, children remind us that passion and clarity of desire are the foundation of achievement.

  • The spirit of persistence

The girls did not stop at “No.” They explored options, sought resources, negotiated, and even devised creative strategies. This persistence mirrors the resilience needed in life to overcome challenges.

  • Creativity beyond limits:

Where adults see impossibility, children see possibility. By nurturing this creativity rather than suppressing it, parents can raise problem solvers and visionaries for the future.

  • A reflection on parenting

Children absorb lessons from every encounter. Their response revealed growing skills in negotiation, financial awareness, and self expression. This is a call for parents to guide wisely because children are learning every single day.

  • The call to be present

Parenting is not only about providing material needs but also about being present in a child’s emotional, intellectual, and moral growth. A present parent nurtures gratitude, patience, and responsibility.

  • The spiritual dimension

Above all, parenting is a divine trust. Children are an amanah from Allah. When their desires collide with reality, it becomes an opportunity to teach gratitude, patience, and reliance on Allah. This spiritual grounding ensures ambition is guided not just by desire but by divine wisdom.

The next time your child makes a bold or unusual request, do not dismiss it. Instead, pause and ask: What lesson can I draw from this, and how can I guide my child with wisdom, patience, and faith?
