Sheikh Feiswal Sowedi Kakaire Walya was sworn in as the new Kadhi of Bugweri Muslim District during a ceremony held at Dawah Main Mosque in Busesa Town Council. The oath-taking, overseen by Abubakar Were Wandagho, Chairperson of the UMSC Independent Electoral Commission, marked the official start of Sheikh Feiswal’s tenure.

The event was presided over by Sheikh Imran Ssali, UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs, representing the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje. It attracted a wide array of guests, including Muslim leaders, local government officials, and representatives from neighbouring Muslim districts.

Notably, the occasion also featured representatives from other faith communities, including Venerable Rev. Charles Bazibu Wabulembo of the Anglican Church and Bishop Christopher Kasango, who pledged to strengthen cooperation and foster unity with the Muslim leadership in Bugweri.

In his remarks, Sheikh Feiswal called for brotherhood and unity among Muslims as the foundation for accelerated development in the district. The outgoing Kadhi, Sheikh Huzaima Magumba, who stepped down due to constitutional requirements, also committed to supporting his successor.

Government officials, including LC5 Chairperson Haj Shafik Muziransa and Resident District Commissioner Haj Shaban Nkutu, assured their commitment to collaborate with the new Muslim leadership to promote social and economic development.

The Mufti’s representative, Sheikh Imran Ssali, emphasized the importance of putting aside internal divisions to work collectively for the growth of Islam and the welfare of the community. “Support your Kadhi with ideas and resources, and avoid placing blame when challenges arise,” he urged.

Dr. Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Bbowa, the Regional Assistant to Mufti for Busoga Region echoed these sentiments, advising leaders to operate within the UMSC Constitution to ensure transparency and success in their endeavours.
