Haj Abbas Muluubya Appointed Substantive UMSC Secretary General

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC Joint Session, comprising the Executive Committee and Majilis Ulama, the College of Eminent Sheikhs has appointed Haj Abbas Ssekyanzi Mulumba as the Substantive Secretary General, pending the General Assembly’s approval. He replaces the incumbent Acting Secretary General, Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, who has been appointed Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance.

Both officials took their oaths of office shortly after their appointment on Friday evening Nov 3rd, 2023. These appointments followed a rigorous selection process overseen by the Appointments & Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Hon. Sheikh Burhan Abdu Kadir Byekwaso.

The committee evaluated candidates who had responded to the vacancies advertised in print media earlier this year. Among the other positions filled were Internal Auditor, taken up by Mr. Wakholi Ramathane Mudhwenge, Secretary for Halal, held by Ms. Nansubuga Fatuma, and Grants Officer, assumed by Mr. Abdel Tomusange.

During their respective addresses, Hon. Abbas Ssekyanzi Muluubya and Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma expressed their unwavering commitment to the service of Islam and the preservation of the UMSC Constitution.

The event was graced by the presence of esteemed figures such as His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza, the Deputy Mufti, His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, Hon. Prof Dr Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, the National Chairperson, and Hon. Haj Muzamir Abon, the Deputy National Chairperson, along with other members of the Joint Session.
