IUIU 34th graduation: UMSC officials among graduates

Several top officials from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) were among the thousands of students who graduated at the 34th graduation ceremony of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), held at the main campus in Mbale on Saturday.

Leading the list was the 2nd Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Muhammad Harouna Bukenye, who earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Islamic Studies. Sheikh Ssalim Bbosa, Deputy Sharia Director, and Sheikh Hamid Sserwadda Busungu, Kampala Regional Assistant to the Mufti, both received master’s degrees in Sharia.

Haji Muhammad Ali Aluma, UMSC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance and Planning, earned a Master’s in Law, while Abubakar Were Wadangho, UMSC Electoral Commission Chairperson, graduated with a Master’s in Public Administration.

Meanwhile, Ali Ahmed Mazrui, a UMSC Executive Committee member, received a Bachelor’s in Social Work and Administration whereas Kasim Badru Kabonge, a former UMSC General Assembly member, and Haji Mutwalibi Kafo, a prominent businessman in Mbale, also graduated.

A total of 2,484 students, including 1,267 females and 1,217 males, graduated in various disciplines with master’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

Vice President Jesca Alupo, who represented the President at the ceremony, was also awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of her distinguished service to the country.
