Kamoga calls for unity as new executive committee for Masaka is installed

Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Kamoga, the national Tablighi leader, has issued a call for unity among Muslims in Masaka, urging them to remain steadfast despite ongoing power struggles within the district’s leadership.
The appeal was made during the official installation of an executive committee appointed by the new Masaka Muslim District Amir, Sheikh Muhammad Haruna Mwebe, under the banner of the Jamuiyyat Tabliigh Da’awa Salafiyya (JTDS).
Sheikh Kamoga directed his message to the new leadership and the entire community, cautioning them against individuals who would sow discord. He warned that disunity would lead to their collective weakness, emphasizing the need for a single, recognized leadership structure.
“Let no one convince you to get disunited,” Sheikh Kamoga warned.
“Work with everyone, forgive each other and let’s agree to have one leadership. If you accept to have parallel leadership in Masaka, it will be the end of you; you must have one leader as Tablighs. Like it’s the case at national level, I am the only Amir; the rest that claim to be Amirs are ceremonial,” he asserted.
The newly installed executive committee comprises a team tasked with overseeing various vital departments. The members include:
- Sheikh Muzafar Umar as Head of Education
- Sheikh Twaha Kakooza as Secretary of the District
- Siraje Sserunkuma as Publicity Secretary
- Sheikh Twaha Hamdan in charge of Da’wa
- Hajji Abubakar Malyolyo in charge of Waqfu
- Sheikh Ali Yusuf Kivumbi in charge of Administration of Deceased’s Estates
- Farook Ntambi as Youth Leader and Head of Youth Affairs
- Abdulkarim Sonko as Head of Physical Planning, deputized by Sheikh Twaha Ssenono and Abdulrahman Kijambu
- Hajj Habbib Ntege as Head of the Hijja Department
- Hajat Salama as Head of the Women Council
Sheikh Kamoga charged the newly appointed officials with serving the Muslim community diligently and with all their effort. He expressed his confidence that their work would be instrumental in elevating the Masaka Muslim community through developmental projects and the propagation of the faith (Da’awa).
Echoing this sentiment, the Masaka District Amir, Sheikh Mwebe, voiced his belief that his selected team would work tirelessly to uplift the Muslims of the district.
“My leadership, with the team that has joined me—with Allah’s guidance—unlike our predecessors, we shall use more actions than words,” Sheikh Mwebe stated.
“We will ensure that Muslims can see and feel what we can add to the Ummah by the time we conclude our leadership roles,” he added.
The installation of this new executive committee occurs against a backdrop of contention. The ousted district Amir, Sheikh Abdallah Mutazindwa, has appealed to the Shura, the highest governing body of the JTDS, challenging the legitimacy of his removal.
Mutazindwa insists that the proper constitutional procedures for changing leadership were not followed and is seeking a reversal of the decision that removed him from office.
