Over 30 Islamic schools from Kassanda and Mubende districts took part in Quran recitation competitions as the Kassanda-basedThamaratul Jannah Girls Educational Center held its second graduation of Hafizats (female memorisers of the Qur’an).
Uganda’s ambassador to Sudan, Dr Yahaya Rashid Ssemuddu, who was chief guest, encouraged parents to instill religious values in their children. “Teaching the Quran to your children builds strong moral foundations,” he said. Dr Ssemuddu donated copies of the Quran to schools and students, emphasizing the importance of nurturing future generations.
He also donated 100 bags of cement to aid the construction of educational facilities, acknowledging the need for improved religious education in the area.
Sheikh Ismael Yusuf Salabaya noted, “This is the second year we have organized this competition, and we are already seeing positive changes in the community. However, more efforts are needed to address gaps in religious education.”
Religious leaders, including Sheikh Hamis Mawejje, urged parents to prioritise teaching their daughters the Quran, highlighting the crucial role women play in raising children and shaping society.
Graduates from Thamaratul Jannah Girls Educational Center reflected on their journey, expressing pride in their achievements and commitment to spreading the teachings of the Quran. Nassiwa Zaitun said, “Investing in the education of girls, especially in religion, is an investment in the future of society.”
