Mubaje commends Pakistan’s mediation efforts in Middle East conflicts
By Ahmed Idriss
Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti, has commended the role being played by Pakistan in promoting dialogue and mediation efforts in the Iran–USA tensions and the Israel–Palestine conflict, as well as broader initiatives aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Mubaje made the remarks on Friday, May 8, 2026, during a courtesy visit by Muhammad Hassan Wazir, the outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner to Uganda, who called on him at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters in Old Kampala as part of his farewell engagements ahead of the end of his diplomatic tour of duty.
The Mufti prayed for the people and leadership of Pakistan, emphasizing that Islam highly honours those who strive to establish peace.
“Allah rewards the makers of peace with peace and blessings,” the Mufti noted.
Wazir acknowledged that the conflict in the Middle East has persisted for decades and may not be resolved within a short period of time.
However, he affirmed that Pakistan will continue playing a constructive role in promoting lasting peace and understanding, leveraging its relations with Iran and the United States to contribute to dialogue and reconciliation.
CORDIAL RELATIONS
Wazir expressed appreciation to the Mufti and the entire Muslim leadership for the cooperation, hospitality, and Islamic brotherhood extended to him throughout his stay in Uganda.
He commended the cordial relations between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Ugandan Muslim community, describing them as being rooted in shared faith, mutual respect, and commitment to the wellbeing of the Ummah.
The Mufti also reflected on the longstanding historical relationship between Uganda and Pakistan in the promotion of Islam.
He cited himself as a direct beneficiary of Islamic knowledge acquired from his mentor, the late Sheikh Abdu Haliq Twariq, a Pakistani national who founded Bugembe Islamic Institute, where the Mufti pursued his Islamic theological studies at high school level.
The outgoing envoy also hailed Uganda as a peaceful, beautiful, and fast-developing country, noting that it has become a second home to many Pakistani nationals living and working in different parts of the country.
