Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has received an Honorary Doctorate from the Swedish Crown University Council Presidency. The Doctorate Certificate was delivered last week by Dr. Salem M. Dabboussi, an Advisor to the University President.
Dr. Salem explained that Sheikh Mubaje was selected by Swedish Crown University after extensive research on his relentless efforts in advocating for the peaceful spread of religion, tolerance, and harmony. He pledged on behalf of the university to strengthen its partnership with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and the Islamic Call University College (ICUC) to promote technology-related courses that will instill skills among young Ugandans.
“We anticipate seeing high levels of professionalism in people who have graduated through ICUC in the near future, for instance, journalists,” Dr. Salem emphasized.
In his acceptance speech, Sheikh Mubaje expressed his gratitude, stating that it was a big surprise even though he has never been to Sweden nor had a prior connection with the university. He also revealed that he is still struggling to complete his Doctorate Studies that he began years ago.
“This should be an eye-opener to Muslims and Ugandans, in general, to always be focused on doing the common good. The world will one day come to appreciate you, as we are witnessing today,” Sheikh Mubaje remarked.
The Mufti recounted his life journey, including his long service in the UMSC leadership. “This award isn’t for me as a person, rather it is for UMSC in general because it wasn’t a simple journey for it to reach where it is now being appreciated by the international community,” he said. He pledged to work closely with the Swedish University for the betterment of Muslims and Ugandans in general.
