Nakibinge calls for rural road development

By Hajji Yunus Ntale

Prince Kassim Nakibinge has pled to government to prioritise the construction of roads in rural areas, describing it as a critical driver of national development.

Prince Nakibinge, the titular head of the Muslim faith in Uganda, made the plea in an address during the 40th anniversary celebrations of Mende Kalema Memorial Secondary School in Wakiso district.

Speaking before a gathering of dignitaries, educators, students, and community members, Prince Nakibinge emphasised that without proper infrastructure, rural communities—and by extension, the nation—would continue to lag behind in progress.

“How can we speak of development when our children struggle to reach school because the roads are impassable? How can farmers transport their goods to markets when the roads are riddled with potholes and mud?” asked Nakibinge.

Nakibinge, who also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a state-of-the-art multipurpose hall to be named after his late father, Prince Badru Kakungulu, stressed that investing in rural infrastructure would not only improve access to education but also stimulate trade, healthcare access, and overall economic growth.

The anniversary event doubled as both a reflection on the school’s journey and a call to action for future growth. Among the distinguished guests was First Deputy Prime Minister at Mengo, Professor Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo, who commended the institution for its contributions to education over the past 40 years.

In his remarks, Prof Kaawaase echoed Prince Nakibinge’s sentiments, acknowledging the need for improved infrastructure.

He extended an invitation to all present to attend the 32nd Kabaka’s coronation anniversary celebrations due to be hosted at Kibuli hill in Kampala.

The Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Muhammad Galabuzi commended Prince Nakibinge for the support rendered to the school over the last several decades and challenged the surrounding community to participate in government programs that aim to uplift their household incomes.
