Sheikh Bbosa blows whistle on commercialisation of Darusu

Darasa, locally known as Darusu holds significant importance in Islam. They serve as the foundation for acquiring a correct understanding of the Islamic religion and preserving its teachings.
However, Sheikh Salim Bbosa, the Deputy Director of Sharia at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) says money minded Muslims are now taking advantage of the religious gatherings to collect money from the unsuspecting members of the ummah.
Apeparing in a viral TikTok video, Bbosa bemoaned the trend saying it is very dangerous. “I request the mosques to stop this. It is dangerous to commercialise this cause. You are spoiling the good intention of the darusu,” Bbosa warned.
Condemning the act as very unfortunate, Bbosa said he is upset that every darusu organised is accompanied with a hefty budget similar to that of a wedding.
This according to Bbosa is distorting the would-be Godly call, urging the mosque leaders across the country to discard the vice.
Bbosa said it is not good for every mosque to organise a darusu. “We need to harmonise this because our people are tired (of this),” Bbosa said, revealing some functions are budgeted at a hefty Shs 45 million.
Bbosa also took a swipe at those behind the darusus for serving people with bad diets even after collecting huge sums of money from them.
“How can you collect huge sums of money and you serve people with poorly cooked rice? I call upon all mosque leaders to desist from this habit because it is bad,” Bbosa said.
