Showing Gratitude Is a Sign of Imaan

From the Pulpit with Sheikh Akram Katungulu Ssonko

Asalaam alaikum warahmatullah wabarakaatuh

Alhamdulillah, we thank the Almighty Allah for keeping us alive and providing us with His endless bounties and favours “… which of Allah’s favours do you deny.” Surat Al-Rahman.

Amidst the challenges each of us is going through at different levels, we always tend to forget what Allah has blessed us with. This is a weakness in our faith and a sign of a weak Imaan.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “… if u can’t thank Allah for the little you have, then never will you be thankful even if you are blessed with more of His favours.” Remember whatever you have is from Allah irrespective of your wisdom and hard efforts.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also said, “Always look at those below your standards and be thankful to your Rabb [Lord].” Many people out there wish to live the very life you are living and they are praying hard to be like you. Unfortunately, you have not found a reason to thank Allah for what you have.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, we need to appreciate what Allah has given us as it is a sign of obedience and Imaan. Allah says in the Qur’an “And remember when your Lord proclaimed, “If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more. But if you are ungrateful, surely My punishment is severe.” Surat Al-Ibrahim 14:7.

Let’s always acknowledge Allah’s favours and bounties upon us, and keep thanking Him (Allah), He will see us through all our challenges and struggles

Allah says in the Qur’an (Surat Al-Baladi 90:4) that man was created to hustle. One day, the sweat of your hard hustling will be rewarded. All the challenges that you and I are facing, are part of the struggle.

May Allah see us through with greater ease, and make us appreciate all his known and unknown favours upon us. Ameen.

Wishing you a fruitful and blessed week ahead.
