Nakibinge emphasizes need for community-centric Mosque development designs

By Ali Mubiru
Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, the titular head of Uganda’s Muslim faith, has called on mosque developers to focus on quality and community development. Speaking at the opening of Masjid Rahma in Rubiriizi district, he emphasized the importance of building hospitals, schools, and Islamic centers alongside mosques.
“This will help bring development to our communities,” Prince Nakibinge said, and encouraged Muslims to utilize mosques for religious education.
The prince also urged Muslims to embrace the campaign to build Salam centers nationwide by the Office of the Supreme Mufti.

Additionally, Prince Nakibinge addressed the issue of mosque sales, urging communities to protect their places of worship by creating jobs to alleviate poverty.
The land upon which the mosque is constructed was donated by the family of Haj Isaac Kapalaga, a volunteer in the office of the Supreme Mufti.
Other speakers, including Hajji Hamis Kakomo and Sheikh Yusuf Idris Jemba, commended the community’s enthusiasm and urged them to protect and maintain their achievements.
The newly opened mosque, built with the support of the Islamic center for education and research and UAE-based partner Dar-Beer, can accommodate over 1,500 people. It replaces one constructed by former President, Idi Amin in the 1970s.
