Turkish NGO Opens Multi-Billion Learning Centre in Wakiso

CARE, a Turkish International Relief Organization has opened a multi-billion model learning centre at Nsaggu near Nakawuka in Wakiso district.

The facility comprises ISAR Primary School and an orphanage. Speaking at the launch of the centre on September 18, Mehmet Sudlu, the president of CARE recounted their first visit to Uganda in 2009 when they noticed the dire state of vulnerable children.
Sudlu explained that they resolved to establish their operations in Uganda, which saw them launch relief programs, health camps, Qurban, Iftar programs and food distribution in various parts of the country.

“We realized the importance of education as enshrined in a verse of the holy Quran Chapter 39: 9 in which the almighty Allah rhetorically asks Prophet Muhammad [Peace Be Upon Him] whether those who are learned equal to those who are not,” Sudlu said, further noting that, “All of us know that when man’s knowledge increases, so is his humility. We came up with the idea of putting up an educational complex for vulnerable children so that they get an education and grow up as responsible members of the community, So, this is what we are witnessing today.”

Representing the Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the deputy Mufti, Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo, paid tribute to the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for the wise leadership that has created an enabling environment prompting many Turkish organizations to roll out developmental programs in various parts of the world.

Sheikh Ssemambo, hailed President Erdogan for his outstanding performance on the world stage as the only Muslim leader to openly speak out in support of Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslim minority as well as the Palestinians. He also thanked the Turkish Ambassador, Karen Alp, and several Turkish organizations operating in Uganda for the good cooperation with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), which has seen the successful implementation of many projects.

“Your support has brought many achievements such as the construction of schools, Mosques and fixing boreholes that have really transformed our people. I wish this had happened 50 years ago we would be far better,” Sheikh Ssemambo noted.

Turkiye’s Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Karen Alp thanked the Gov’t of Uganda and UMSC for the existing bilateral cooperation and pledged on behalf of Turkiye Organizations to continue working closely for the betterment of the communities.
