The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has introduced a new ceremonial tunic for all District Kadhis, with Sheikh Rajab Mugenyi becoming the first to wear the official attire during his installation as Bunyoro’s new Kadhi.

The clerical robe was unveiled at an event held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Bwikya Hill in Hoima Oil City.

UMSC Secretary General, Haji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, officially revealed the clerical robe and explained its significance during the ceremony.

“This robe marks the dignity, authority, and unity of our leadership structure,” Muluubya said. “From this day forward, all District Kadhis will be recognized not only by their title, but also by their attire.”

The Green robe has a unique gold embroidery, a special cap in green and gold, and a white shawl worn over the left shoulder with the UMSC logo.

“The attire has unique features to avoid duplication and is gazetted with the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation- UPPC,” said Muluubya.

According to Muluubya, they are working on a similar official attire for the offices of the Regional Assistants to the Mufti, Deputy Kadhis, and County (Twale) Sheikhs.

The initiative is part of UMSC’s efforts to formalize and visually unify Muslim leadership across the country. According to UMSC, the tunic will be worn by Kadhis during official ceremonies, public events, and religious gatherings.

Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the Second Deputy Mufti, who officiated at the function on behalf of the Mufti of Uganda, described the tunic as a “symbol of institutional identity and a step toward structured religious governance.”

The occasion also featured a donation of a double-cabin vehicle and Shs 10 million to Sheikh Mugenyi from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, represented by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

The ceremony also included remarks from several dignitaries, including Ministers Mary Mugasa and Balamu Barugahare, and Andrew Byakutaga Atenyi – Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Premier, who all pledged their support to Sheikh Mugenyi’s leadership.
