The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, recently inaugurated an Iftar relief distribution at the Kiryandongo Refugee Camp, expressing gratitude to the Red Cross Society of Uganda for their generous support to the refugee community during the holy month of Ramadhan. This event took place on Thursday, March 20, and aimed to provide essential items for breaking the fast to needy individuals in the camp.

In his remarks, Sheikh Mubaje acknowledged the Red Cross Society’s commitment to helping vulnerable populations, stating, “We are grateful for the Red Cross for their gesture to help our brothers and sisters who are in need of breaking the fast.”

He also encouraged further contributions to ensure that all refugees receive assistance.

Highlighting the significance of the Red Cross’s decision to incorporate the crescent symbol, Mubaje noted that it reflects the organization’s commitment to interfaith cooperation and strengthens its ties with the Muslim community.

“This adds value to the Interreligious Council of Uganda’s principles, showing that relief transcends all boundaries,” he added.

Irene Nakasiita, the Director of Communications, Resource Mobilization, and Partnerships at the Red Cross Society of Uganda, explained that the relief initiative is specifically targeted at vulnerable Muslims in the Kiryandongo Refugee Camp.

“This is a gesture to support Muslims during Ramadhan, ensuring they can break their fast adequately,” she said.

Imam Shafi Kajiiko, the Secretary for Social Services, UMSC, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the refugees’ lives.
