UMSC equips Muslim leaders with tablets

By Issa Kigongo

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has distributed Android tablets to Muslim leaders in East and West Buganda to improve communication, research and information management as it implements its 10-year strategic development plan.

The tablets were handed over by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, during a ceremony held in the UMSC boardroom on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

The beneficiaries included Regional Assistants to the Mufti for East and West Buganda, regional secretaries, members of the Majlis Al Ulama, representatives of the Shuura and Advisory Council, and district Kadhis from the two regions.

Mubaje urged the leaders to make effective use of the devices, saying they would help them adapt to modern ways of communicating, conducting research and managing information.

“We urge you to put them to proper use in order to strengthen communication, do more research, and store all kinds of data and other useful information,” he said as he handed over the tablets and their accessories.

He said the distribution was part of efforts to implement the Council’s 10-year strategic development plan, which aims to strengthen its operations and improve service delivery.

UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi described the changes taking place within the Council as unprecedented and called on Muslim leaders to embrace teamwork and work harder to transform their communities.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the tablets to improve coordination and support the Council’s development agenda.

The distribution is part of the Council’s efforts to modernise its administration and equip regional and district leaders with digital tools to support their work.
