Tabligh Leader Fractures Leg in Mosque Accident

By Jafar Mugera

Sheikh Yahya Ramathan Mwanje, the Deputy Amir of the Jamuiyyat Tabligh Da’awah As-Salafiyya (JTDS), is recovering from a fractured leg following an accident at a mosque in Mukono District over the weekend.

The cleric had travelled to a mosque in Seeta, Mukono Municipality, to facilitate a Darsu (Islamic study circle).

Recounting the incident, Sheikh Mwanje said he had travelled from Kampala on a boda boda and arrived safely at the mosque.

“I travelled from Kampala on a boda boda and reached safely. As I was being received, the rider decided to move the motorcycle and park it in a more suitable location,” he said.

Mwanje explained that he was unaware that his kanzu had become entangled in the motorcycle’s rear wheel.

“It did not occur to me that my kanzu had got trapped in the wheel. As the motorcycle was being moved, I lost my balance and fell,” he said.

He was rushed to a clinic in Mukono Town for first aid before being transferred to Pearl Medical Centre in Kansanga, a Kampala suburb, where he remains hospitalised.

Family sources said he is likely to be discharged on Saturday.

“He has responded well to treatment, and his condition is not as serious as was initially portrayed,” a family member said.

“The cast has been removed and he has begun physiotherapy exercises on the injured leg. We are optimistic that he will regain full mobility.”
